Raphinha stance on Arsenal and Tottenham transfers after contract clause hiccup

Raphinha is much in demand this summer and Arsenal and Tottenham have joined Barcelona in the race to sign the Leeds star.

But the Brazil winger is in no rush to join either of the north London clubs just yet because he is holding out for a move to Barcelona. Raphinha has set his heart on a switch to the Nou Camp and his agent Deco has even agreed personal terms with the Spanish giants.

However the transfer ran into problems when Leeds survived on the final day, which meant his escape clause in the event of relegation did not apply. Barcelona were banking on Leeds being relegated to enable them to pick Raphinha up on the cheap and they have a restricted transfer budget because of the financial problems at the club.

Leeds want around £60million for Raphinha and this is proving beyond what Barca can pay. This has opened the door for the South American’s other suitors and both Arsenal and Tottenham have the cash to enter into serious negotiations with Leeds.

Spurs can even offer Raphinha the Champions league football he wants if he leaves Leeds. But he is in no hurry to join either side because his first choice in an ideal world remains Barcelona.

Raphinha, 25, is prepared to wait for the right next club and he is attracting much interest because he scored 17 Premier League goals and made 12 assists in his last two seasons with Leeds. He knows his appeal could rise further if he has a good World Cup with Brazil this winter.

Unai Emery favourite to replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager - EXCLUSIVE

UNAI EMERY has emerged as the clear favourite to replace Arsene Wenger who is managing his last game for Arsenal at Huddersfield.

Arsenal will move for the departing Paris Saint-Germain coach Emery after both Luis Enrique and Max Allergi expressed reservations about the two tier management structure.

A major obstacle however is thought to be that the Spaniard wants around £8.5million a year to move to the capital when he leaves PSG.

Arsenal will surely be reluctant to part with such a figure after a large outlay in January.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were purchased and German international Mesut Ozil was also handed a bumper new contract to add to the wage bill.

Emery joined PSG from Sevilla two years ago but has not been a success at a club that now expects to win every competition they are involved in.

The 46-year-old could only finish second behind Monaco in his first season in charge and has been playing catch up ever since.

Although the Ligue 1 title was secured this time around to go with double Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue glory, his ultimate failings have come in Europe.

PSG failed to make an impact in the Champions League after suffering painful exits at the last-16 stage to Spanish opposition in both seasons.

Emery's contract at PSG has not been renewed

Last year the club were embarrassed by Barcelona who came back from a 4-0 deficit from the first leg in Paris to win the tie 6-5 on aggregate.

And after leading in the Bernabeu against Real Madrid, the Parisians ended up losing both legs to once again fall short this season.

Emery arrived at PSG with a strong reputation after guiding Sevilla to three consecutive Europa League wins and also performed well with limited resources at Valencia.

But ultimately the Spaniard has been unable to deliver the one big prize that the Qatari owners crave.

Wenger himself has previously supported Emery after increased media speculation grew about his tenure at PSG.

“Watching from outside Unai Emery for me is a very competent person and if PSG want to move forward that they need a project based on stability,” said Wenger.

“So I’m not like you thinking Unai Emery should go. People are always very quick to make rapid decisions. Once they’re in charge it changes a little bit.”

Emery is also fancied by West Ham United who are yet to confirm that David Moyes will still be at the London Stadium come the start of next season.

Arsene Wenger was full of praise for Unai Emery

Wenger will take charge of his final game as Arsenal manager today after 22 years at the helm.

His final opponents, Huddersfield, will also be in celebratory mood after already securing their Premier League survival and Wenger was full of praise for the Yorkshire side.

"Huddersfield....they go to City, they go to Chelsea. That is incredible....absolutely exceptional," he said.

“But I will say to the players the best way to prepare the future is win the next game and go into a positive mind into next season.”

SEAD KOLASINAC IS THE BARGAIN OF THE SEASON

Arsene Wenger hailed Sead Kolasinac with proving that bargains still exist in the transfer market after the play maker inspired gunners by 2-1 comeback win over Swansea on Saturday.

Kolasinac joined on a free transfer from Schalke this summer, who netted the second-half equaliser himself and then set up Ramsey for the winner as Gunners maintained their perfect home record this season.
"I believe that since he arrived he has convinced everybody that he was a good signing," Wenger said. "Overall, I think when you see the quality of his performance again today, you see there are still some good deals to make out there.

"Kolasinac was decisive today because he scored and made an assist."

Wenger said he made a tactical adjustment at half-time to focus more on attacking down the left flank, as Swansea were focusing more on shutting down Hector Bellerin on the right.

"We had a bit more space on the left. We saw that and we wanted to take advantage of that in the second half," Wenger said. "So for us it was important to build up on the right and change quickly to the left and create some space for Kolasinac. And he did that very well."

Kolasinac then had to limp off in the 78th minute with what Wenger described as "a tight hip muscle." He said it was unclear whether it was a serious problem but didn't rule out Kolasinac being available for the crucial trip to league leaders Manchester City next weekend.
