Arsenal Lead the race to sign Kostas Manolas

Arsenal have been given a massive boost in their attempt to sign one of their main centre back targets this summer.

The Gunners have in the last three months been constantly linked with a move for AS Roma star Kostas Manolas but it was thought that Chelsea were the likeliest to sign the player. But if reports by the highly reliable football insider website is to go by, the player could be on his way to Arsenal this summer.

According to Reports, Chelsea have pulled out of the race to sign the player and would rather sign Manolas’ team mate Radja Naigollan hence giving Arsenal a free hand to sign Manolas if Wenger really want him. The 24-year-old Greece international was thought to be on his way to Arsenal in 2014 before he went to Roma as Arsenal and his then club Olympiakos could not reach an agreement on a transfer fee.

Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Bayern Munich and Morocco international centre back Mehdi Benatia who is surplus to requirement at Bayern Munich after the Bavarians signed Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund.

Both Benatia and Manolas signing for Arsenal will make a lot of sense. But I personally would prefer we go for Manolas as he is much younger and has is not injury prone unlike Benatia who has suffered from one injury to the other ever since leaving AS Roma for Bayern Munich.
